We had our 28 week visit on Monday, and I had my glucose tolerance test. Baby Belle is doing well. Her heartbeat was at 143, and she was moving around when they were trying to get it.
I, however, did not have as pleasant of a visit. I failed my glucose tolerance test. They were looking for my sugar to be at 130 and it was at 183. Not good. I'm hoping that it's just a result of Easter being the day before my test and my unrealizing indulgence in some Easter Bunny sweets. We'll see. I go back on Tuesday to take the three hour test which I'm definitely not looking forward to. They said that I would go in and have blood taken right away, drink a sugar, have my blood taken again after an hour, drink the sugar drink again, have my blood taken again after an hour, drink the sugar drink again, and have my blood taken one last time. Count the times that I have to have my blood taken - you should get four. For a girl that doesn't like needles, that sounds less than appealing. What sounds even less appealing is the fact that she said that if my blood sugar comes back higher than 130 two of the four times, they will send me to a diabetic clinic where they will teach me how to take my blood four times a day and give me a diet. Yuck! Say a prayer for me that, that is not the case. I will let you know how it goes next Tuesday.
I also start my two week appointments this month so I will go on Tuesday for the three hour glucose test and then again the next Monday for another appointment. Fun times!
Not fun Amy! I have lots of friends who had the gestational diabetes and it wasn't a pleasant experience - but thankfully, if you do have it, it goes away as soon as you have her! Hopefully, it was just a fluke! GOOD LUCK!
ReplyDeleteI don't like needlees either, but I know you will do just fine. If the tests do come back where you have to test your blood sugar, just think of the joy your little one is going to bring. It will all be worth it in the end! :)
ReplyDeleteHang in there and best of Luck! Can't wait to hear the news.
